About Me

I've worked in the field of education for over 10 years, as an elementary school classroom teacher, Mommy and Me teacher, researcher, consultant, and creator/executive director of an educational non-governmental organization (NGO). I have my master’s degree in special education from the University of Kansas.  All of these experiences have deepened my ability to support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) as well as emotional or behavioral disorders (EBD) in the classroom and beyond. I've worked both abroad (China and Mongolia) as well as in the U.S., and have seen that there are many similarities between all three countries in terms of the supports needed by schools, families and students. As the proud sister of a woman with Down syndrome, I also have a personal understanding of the unique challenges and triumphs that people with disabilities and their families may encounter.

I also have over ten years of experience in self-awareness training, both as a personal practice as well as a professional skill that I've developed through participating in seminars and trainings.  I've incorporated self-awareness techniques into my teaching both in schools as well as in the family programs I've designed and taught through my NGO.  Early in my teaching career, I taught speech and drama classes, and since then, have loved to incorporate elements of speech and drama and other forms of creative expression into the work that I do with students of all ages.

The programs that I develop and teach are a combination of my greatest strengths as well as what I love most about being a teacher. I help children and their families to feel less stressed, to be in a place of confidence, equipped to handle the fun as well as the challenging times in life, to be more connected to themselves and more communicative with the people around them. I help families to feel stronger as a family unit and confident to meet life’s challenges together.

I live on the coast of the San Francisco Bay Area. I love going to the ocean and exploring my surroundings--gorgeous nature and vibrant communities. I live with my cat Mango, whom I found in Shanghai and who loves cuddling, chasing his jellyfish toy and watching animal videos together.  I grew up surrounded by music, and I enjoy making music and dancing (especially swing and salsa) in my free time.

I'm very happy to be able to support families here in the Bay Area as well as remotely. My vision is that all people embrace themselves exactly as they are and have the confidence to learn, grow, and joyfully share themselves with the world around them!
